Hybrid cars contain many special parts in them. All of them have an engine that automatically shuts off and restarts. The engine shuts off when you come to a complete halt, and starts up again the second you start pushing the accelerator pedal-automatically!
In some specific hybrids, the electric engine works when the car is going at slow to medium speed. Then, the gasoline engine takes over when the car is going at high speed. This makes the engines work together and accelerate the car.
